Dermalogica Cover Tint - Review

I’ve been a Dermalogica devotee since I was 15, and wore foundation for the first time - Dermalogica’s Treatment Foundation. Since then, I’ve tried a number of other foundations, but Dermalogica’s is the one I’ve always come back to. I’ve got very fair, combination skin, and most foundations have either not provided light enough shades for my skin, or have left it feeling chalky and dry.

Since having returned to education, I’ve had to give up my Dermalogica skincare addiction, but foundation is the one product I’ve felt it’s really worthing paying out for. I’m a firm believer that you can get away with cheap makeup for products like mascara, eyeliner and brow pencil, but it’s worth paying a bit for skin makeup - primer, foundation, concealer, powder, blusher - as it really shows, and leaves your skin in much better condition than using cheap products that just dry it out, or rub off part way through the day.

So, when I came to replace my current foundation, and discovered that Dermalogica had stopped making the Treatment Foundation, I was pretty upset. They’ve replaced it with the Cover Tint (you can find it here). It has a pretty hefty R.R.P. of £34, and only comes in three shades - light, dark, and medium. I usually order my Dermalogica from pure-beauty, as they’re cheap, have a great rewards scheme, and their customer service is FAB. They suggested ordering a sample, as well as the bottle, to try first, in case the colour match wasn’t right and I’m extremely glad I followed their advice!

The Cover Tint is a very strange, slightly rubbery consistency, which made it really difficult to get an even coverage. I ordered the ‘light’ shade, as my skin’s so pale (and I’m out of fake tan at the moment). However, it came out a really disgusting shade of orange, that was nowhere near my skin tone. This is a real shame, as one of the reasons I liked their old Treatment Foundation so much was because the pale colours were brilliant, and judging from the way that my local shops would often be sold out of the palest shades, I’d imagine other people feel the same way. Fortunately, pure-beauty said I could return the bottle, as only the sample had been opened - I really can’t recommend them enough if you’re buying Dermlaogica products!

However, I definitely won’t be buying this foundation again, and I’m off to start the process of hunting for a new everyday foundation now....
